Sony Cybershot QX100 and QX10 'Lens-Style Cameras' fully revealed ahead of official launch

With less than a day left until Sony's much-anticipated attachable smartphone lens cameras goes official, details of the pricing, availability and full specifications of the 'Lens-Style Cameras' have been leaked.

Sonyalpharumors has revealed full details about Sony's attachable smartphone lens cameras courtesy an official site which unintentionally published the full press release including images. However, the site has now removed the press release on request from Sony.

The lens cameras will be officially called as the Cybershot QX100 and QX10. Out of the two, the Sony Cyber Shot QX10 will come with a price tag of around $250 and an 18.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and 10x optical zoom. Additionally, the QX10 camera will come with built-in Optical SteadyShot, to keep the handheld pictures and videos steady and blur-free. It will also feature Program Auto, Intelligent Auto and Superior Auto modes and will be available in two different colours, Black and White.

Meanwhile, the Sony Cybershot QX100 will be the more expensive of the two lenses and will come at around $500. The QX100 features 20.2-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor which is identical to the sensor found in the Cyber-shot RX100 II camera. The sensor is paired with the Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T lens with 3.6x optical zoom and a BIONZ image processor. As an extra refinement, the QX100 sports a dedicated control ring for camera-like adjustment of manual focus and zoom.

The company will also reportedly introduce the latest version of Sony's PlayMemories Mobile app which will be available for iOS and Android devices. The app will convert the display of the phone into a viewfinder for the lenses.

The yet to be officially unveiled Cybershot QX100 and QX10 lens-style cameras will hit the stores later this month. However, there is no word about the list of countries receiving the device this month.

Sony's peculiar QX10 and QX100 lens cameras leaked in full

As Sony's September 4th event approaches, it looks as though there's very little left for the company to reveal. After first emerging a month and a half ago, Sony's lens camera accessories, which are said to turn any Android or iOS phone into a high-quality point-and-shoot, have leaked time and time again. Today's leak is the most comprehensive yet: a full set of 24 press images, courtesy of Photo Rumors. The images show the mechanism the lenses will use to attach to smartphones, and also contextualize the size of the attachments better than before. One image, shown above, appears to show a phone case that presumably features a special attachment for the lens camera.

To recap, it's reported that Sony will announce a pair of lens cameras this week. Sony Alpha Rumors, which before today had been responsible for all of the leaks, believes the QX10 will cost $250 and feature a 1/2.3-inch 18-megapixel sensor paired with an f/3.3-5.9 lens. The QX100 will reportedly cost $450, but that extra $200 will get you a high-quality 1-inch 20.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor and a f/1.8-4.9 Carl Zeiss lens. To put those specs in context, the QX10 is equivalent to Sony's WX150 camera and the QX100 takes its parts from the much-loved RX100m2 .

Sony's lens camera smartphone accessories could start from $250

In case you needed further proof that Sony will announce its "lens cameras" soon, Sony Alpha Rumors (SAR) has leaked the rumored accessories yet again. The camera site has previously revealed the lens cameras will attach to iOS and Android devices and act as a wireless lens using Wi-Fi. This time, the big surprise is color: SAR has obtained images from an anonymous source that show the rumored QX10 lens camera in a champagne gold and silver finish — perfect for that rumored gold iPhone 5S.

Along with the new images, which also depict the higher-end QX100 complete with buttons and labels, SAR has more details on the lens cameras' specifications, prices, and features. The QX10 will reportedly cost $250, while the QX100 is pegged at $450. Both will be capable of shooting 1080p video at 30 frames-per-second and feature optical image stabilization. Images and video can be saved directly to your smartphone and to memory within the lens camera itself, and you'll be able to control zoom, exposure, white balance, and focus from your mobile device. An NFC logo that sits atop the lens cameras implies that you'll be able to pair the lens with your smartphone without diving through your device's Wi-Fi settings.

As previously reported, the QX10 is rumored to feature the same 1/2.3-inch 18-megapixel sensor and f/3.3-5.9 lens as Sony's WX150 camera, while the QX100 will apparently take the 1-inch 20.2-megapixel Exmor R sensor and f/1.8-4.9 Carl Zeiss lens from one of our favorite cameras, the RX100m2. We expect both lenses to be announced at Sony's September 4th press conference at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.

Sony combines mirrorless camera and DSLR with the tiny new A3000

Gallery Photo: Sony Alpha A3000 and NEX-5T pictures

From the entry-level NEX-3 to the pro-level NEX-7, Sony's made a name for itself cramming big sensors into small camera bodies. The company's doing it again this week, but with a slightly different tack: it's fused the body of a DSLR with the sensor, control setup, and lens options of a mirrorless camera. The new Alpha A3000 comes with a 20.1-megapixel APS-C sensor, an electronic viewfinder, 1080p video shooting at 60 or 24 frames per second, and a dozen or so picture filters and effects, and an E-mount. So far, so NEX.

But the A3000 looks much more like a shrunken DSLR, with a roomy grip for your right hand, a mode dial on top, a hotshoe, and buttons and dials everywhere. It's smaller than most DSLRs but obviously still larger than most mirrorless cameras, and it's quite comfortable; I found it easier to hold in one hand than any NEX camera I've used. This camera is Sony's attempt to blur the line between mirrorless camera and DSLR, and do it at a price that'll make any DSLR shopper look twice: $399.99 with a black 18-55mm kit lens. It's very much an entry-level camera, with few bells or whistles to speak of, but thanks to its E-mount compatibility it offers some growing power — and a cheap way to look like a pro holding a DSLR.

Dsc_7958-560

Sony's not ignoring the traditional NEX lineup, though: it's introduced the new NEX-5T, which is all about bells and whistles. The $699 camera isn't fundamentally that different from the NEX-5R, but it adds NFC: that allows one-touch connection between the NEX-5T and your smartphone or your computer. Given our past experience with Sony's camera Wi-Fi, that may not be a frequently-used feature, though we've liked the ability to use your phone as a remote viewfinder and shutter button. The 5T keeps the same sensor, same fast hybrid autofocus, and even most of the same fit and finish as the last model — but since it comes with Sony's new, smaller power zoom 16-50mm kit lens, it's a noticeably smaller footprint. We liked the NEX-5R, and though the 5T doesn't reinvent the wheel it's a nice upgrade.

Both cameras will be available in late September, along with three new E-mount lenses. They probably won't upstage the NEX-6 as our favorite of Sony's mirrorless cameras, but at far cheaper prices they probably don't need to.

Panasonic Lumix GX7 mirrorless camera leaks with tilting viewfinder and retro style

Details of Panasonic's long-awaited follow-up to the popular Lumix GX1 Micro Four Thirds camera appear to have leaked.

According to an image spotted on Fotomagazine.de and specs reported by 4/3 Rumors, the GX7 will feature a tilting electronic viewfinder, on-sensor image stabilization, a 16- or 18-megapixel sensor, a tilting 3-inch screen, and Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity.

The camera also appears to have taken more than a little influence from Fujifilm's X series, with metal construction and the option of a retro-style silver and black colorway. The leaked image shows a 20mm prime lens mounted on the GX7, suggesting it will be offered as part of a kit.

The GX1 was expected to kick off a new series of enthusiast-focused mirrorless cameras when it launched in 2011 — a spiritual successor to the much-loved GF1, its focus on physical controls in a compact body won it many fans. An update is long overdue, then, but GX1 owners might have to pay more than they're used to. If 4/3 Rumors' report is accurate, the GX7 body alone will sell for €1,000 (about $1,320), whereas the GX1 cost €599.99 ($699.99).
