Thanks to the increasing demand for Smartphones and their affordability in India, the country has surpassed Japan to reach the stadium as world’s third largest Smartphone market, following U.S.,occupying first place and China at second, according to a new report by Strategy Analytics.
The Smartphone makers like Samsung, Apple and the indigenous mobile manufacturers like Micromax are driving the higher volumes in the country.
The Strategy Analytics report mentions that the country is growing four times faster than the global average, with 163 percent year on year growth in Q1, compared to worldwide Smartphone volumes expanding only 39 percent. It also added that India is rising quicker than China, 86 percent YoY; Japan, 24 percent YoY, and the US, 19 percent YoY — and “almost all other major countries”.
A portion of its credit goes to the homegrown manufacturers, especially Micromax, who seems to be running on par with that of international brands, at least in terms of new releases.
The latest to make entry to their hitlist is Micromax Canvas Lite A92, a 5 inch Smartphone embedding a dual core processor and Android Jelly Bean. The phone was released just when rumors about the company’s next flagship, Canvas 4 is high in air. However, with multiple launches at narrow price difference, the company may face a threat of ‘self cannibalizing’, where some models kill the sales of others.
